WIP Snippet: Fresh (and a Book Update)

Note to self: Find another word for fresh when referring to air or clean things.

I had plenty of options for Friday Kiss, but this was the only one on theme. Most of them had to do with breathing fresh air, putting on fresh clothing, eating fresh food, or drinking fresh water.

Silhouettes of tree trunks against a whimsical blue background. #FridayKiss: Fresh. Emma's sexual attraction to men seldom lasted long after they opened their mouths. This little project was exactly what she needed to prove that under those seductive eyes and inviting mouth was just another mediocre man. She told herself that her intense sexual attraction to Liam would wane and she could once again go about her day without thinking of all the places he could put that mouth..Walking side-by-side through the quiet museum made it easier for Emma to see the finer detail of his face: The streaks of selenite white in his beard and the little folds between his brows when he smiled. He smelled like freshly turned earth and the forest after a heavy rain.

Line Edits Have Started

I’ve had the itch to go at my manuscript with a red pen, but I’ve held off while my beta readers are still working. I wanted to do all the markups at once, because that’s the efficient thing to do, right?

Anyway, I finally gave in and started line editing.

A manuscript printout already marked up in red pen sitting on a desk with a laptop and cold tea.

Line editing is going line-by-line to ensure each sentence is as clear and effective as possible. It’s taking voice, style, and flow into consideration. I could edit a sentence to death. A line I thought was fine on the first read may sound off the next day.

Writing and editing are two completely different skills and I respect the hell out of good editors.

About #FridayKiss

Each week author Gwynne Jackson posts a word prompt and encourages authors to share snippets from their works in progress (WIPs) that use the prompt or some variation of it. I love seeing how other writers utilize language and how words fit into their unique voice.
