Generative AI Stance

Fuck generative AI.

No, seriously.

I do not use generative AI tools (ChatGPT and the like) at any point in the plotting, drafting, production, or marketing of any of my books.

No generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies were used in the creation of this publication. Any use of this publication to “train” generative AI technologies for any reason without prior written permission of the publisher is expressly prohibited.

This statement is included on the copyright page in at the beginning of each book

I do use platforms and software that have implemented genAI features. Even stupid WordPress is prompting me to have AI write this sentence. I turn off these features when possible (oftentimes it’s not) and avoid using them.

I use a mix of licensed and royalty free stock images for promotional content. I do my best to screen images before use, but attention to detail isn’t a strength of mine. Any use of an AI generated image is unintentional and I’m happy to receive a polite DM letting me know.

Not to be confused with machine learning

Listen, my 10-year-old knows more about software design than I do so I’m not going to attempt to explain the difference between machine learning and generative AI.

This Forbes article does a pretty decent job at it.

There may be times you see I’m excited about something cool being done with AI or vouch for software that utilizes AI. Trust that those instances are examples of machine learning and not generative AI.

Artists, Designers, and Editors

I do not work with artists that use generative AI at any point in their creation process.

I do not work with any editors that use generative AI in their editing process.

I credit all involved artists and editors on the copyright page in the front of the book. Credits can also be be found on the book’s landing page.

I don’t credit/tag my artists or designers every time I use the art for promotional purposes. That’s an unreasonable ask, especially when this page exists.
