Every April and August romance author Mariah Ankenman hosts a daily prompt event to get to know the authors behind the books you love. 

My goal is to post one for each day and you can see how well I do by following me on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, or TikTok.

Also a yoga teacher.
Using a mood board to highlight my current project, Roots in Ink. The board is comprised of dark, heavily saturated images of old books, plants, and a couple. The tone is eerie and sensual.
Line edits : 4/45 chapters complete Line edits are due at the end of September so I can get a reasonably finalized draft to my sensitivity reader.
I’m a linear writer but I’m better about skipping individual scenes when I get stuck. I used to hang out there until the words came but that rarely did any good and usually just burned me out. I’m much better at moving on now. I leave myself a note with what I’m trying to accomplish and moving on.
StoryGraph tells me 96 books. But that doesn’t include all the books on my physical TBR shelf in my living room bookcase. And it doesn’t include all the books I said, “Oh! I wanna read that!” And then forget to put it on my TBR 2 seconds later.

Definitely nonfiction. Doing a deep dive researching an interesting topic and writing a whole bunch about it was my favorite part about being a journalist.
